***Movment Warm Up***
Melissa Matson, Embodied Presence

melisa Edit W

Melissa knows, lives and shares one simple truth – the body is the vehicle for awakening.

After university, she pursued professional dance in New York, where her vision of theater, dance and creativity was blown wide open. She was privileged to meet, study and performing with one dance legend after another (Steve Paxton/of contact improv, Trisha Brown/ inventor of release technique, Meredith Monk/The House, Emilie Conrad/ inventor of Continuum, even Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali.

In 1987, Melissa found the Alexander technique, meditation and dance as sacred paths. These disciplines continue to weave beautifully together and inform her way – utilizing creative expression, insightful inquiry and spiritual alignment through the body.

For nearly 20 years Melissa taught ‘Embodied Stage Presence’ at Santa Fe University of Art and Design – and her embodied presence is what she will bring to the Ecstatic dance Chicago tribe.

alissa.jo (Deep House Yoga)
.
alissa jo Edit W
.
It is only fitting that alissa.jo planted her roots in the city of Chicago, the birthplace of house music. To her the genre epitomizes the essence of feeling—DJs guide each fan through their own unique experiences with the power of sound.
From the beginning, it has been the house music maven’s mission to upend convention, sewing together her signature brand: ethereal, soulful, melodic, and groovy. Borrowing from a broad selection of styles scored alissa.jo late-night gigs at The MID & Spybar in Chicago, Sound Night Club in Los Angeles, Space in Miami, and ongoing as the Resident DJ at London based Music Promotional Label Aux Deep.
One of alissa.jo’s most memorable events to date was playing at Chicago’s Mamby Beach Festival in 2015 where she used blissful electronic music to guide yogis through a breathtaking spiritual practice. The experience inspired alissa.jo to create her own brand Deep House Yoga, and she hosts events at Sound Nightclub in Los Angeles, Populux Detroit, Necto in Ann Arbor, Vinyl in Denver, and rooftops in Chicago.

Lizz Medrano (Zen Shiatsu)
.
Lizz ShiatsuEdit2 W
“I am a Zen shiatsu therapist. Zen shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork based in Chinese medicine, that involves acupressure and light passive stretching.
My interest in healing started at Yoga Vidya Gurukul, an Ashram in India, where I studied Yoga and Ayurveda. This experience at the ashram piqued my interest in the healing arts and allowed me to develop a relaxed, intuitive Shiatsu style. Healing and helping people find balance in their lives is something I am deeply passionate about and I hope to share with this gift with others.”

Phil Blaetz, Therapeutic Flying
.
phil b Edit1 W
“Growing up it seemed all the physical activities were competitive and focused on constructing a body that did a thing rather than was healthy. In my early 20’s I realized I needed more physical activity in my life but didn’t know what to do in a gym so I tried yoga and was soon taking five to seven yoga classes a week. Yoga gave me joy in seeking health and body awareness in ways that I never had before. After getting into acroyoga, I found an outlet for the physical awareness I had gained in yoga and with it could forge connections and community with others in a way I had not in the past. With acro therapeutics, or therapeutic flying, I use the awareness I gained in yoga with the ability to connect found in acroyoga to give you the opportunity to to find more ease and health in their body while suspended in the air.”
